Two-Factor Authentication
Add an extra layer of security to your Latch account with two-factor authentication (2FA).
What Is 2FA
Two-factor authentication requires two forms of identification to log in:
- Your password (something you know).
- A code from your phone (something you have).
Setting Up 2FA
- Go to Settings > Security.
- Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Choose your method:
- Authenticator App (recommended) — Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar.
- SMS — Receive codes via text message.
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (or enter your phone number for SMS).
- Enter the 6-digit code to confirm setup.
- Save your backup codes in a secure location.
Backup Codes
When you enable 2FA, Latch provides 10 backup codes. These are single-use codes you can use if you lose access to your authenticator app.
- Store them securely (password manager, printed copy in a safe).
- Each code can only be used once.
- Generate new backup codes from Settings > Security if needed.
Logging In with 2FA
- Enter your email and password as normal.
- You are prompted for a 2FA code.
- Open your authenticator app and enter the current code.
- Click Verify.
Disabling 2FA
- Go to Settings > Security.
- Click Disable 2FA.
- Enter your password and a 2FA code to confirm.
Tip: Use an authenticator app rather than SMS — it is more secure and does not rely on mobile signal.
